What is laser pigmentation removal and does it actually work?
Sun damage, discolouration, and age spots are skin issues most Australians deal with thanks to our outdoor lifestyle and incredibly strong sun.
And while we firmly believe in wearing SPF every single day, staying out of the sun during peak hours, and loading up on the anti-ageing serums overnight, these tactics can only get you so far. Many people have a genetic predisposition to hyperpigmentation and no amount of brightening cream or staying indoors is going to change that.
Luckily, there have been some amazing technological advances in skincare treatments in recent years. Now, one of the most effective (and permanent) ways to get rid of unwanted pigmentation on the skin is through laser pigmentation removal.

Laser pigmentation removal is a non-invasive laser treatment that works to reduce the appearance of freckles, dark spots, age spots, acne scars and hyperpigmentation. It can be done on all parts of the body, including face, neck, and decolletage. It works by grabbing hold of the pigmentation deep within the skin and breaking it up into small particles, all without damaging the surrounding skin. Those targeted particles will darken, rise to the surface of the skin and flake off over time, leaving you with clear, even-toned skin.
No cuts, scars, or down-time.
Sounds amazing right? We thought so too.
So after doing a little research, we decided to try it out. We booked in with Dr. Josh Wall at Contour Clinics in Five Dock and bh’s Delaney went under the laser in the hopes to get rid of her unwanted hyperpigmentation.
To see how the procedure went and her before and after results, watch the video above!
Would you try laser pigmentation removal?

I have tried a similar treatment called lime Light depigmentation and it did get darker initially and then fell off. It’s looking a bit lighter but I have to go back for another 2-3 times as mine is quite dark due to sunspots and also pregnancies.

Thanks Delaney for going through this in the interests of informing the BH members. I personally didn’t think you needed first session and definitely don’t need more, but that is obviously up to you.
I am happy to live with the pigmentation I’ve developed over the years, much of it most likely from when I was a kid when we didn’t even use sunscreen, and when we first did it was a choice of SPF2, 4 or 8 Reef Oil (and 8 was considered ridiculous). Oh how much we’ve learned since then.
Unless there is anything pre-cancerous to any of my freckles or moles, I’m happy to let it be. Even the rosacea I’ve learned to live with.

I enjoyed the vlog video, so keep ;em coming! As for the treatment itself? I think Delaney is beautiful in both the before and after pics. I couldn't see terribly much pigmentation in the 'before', though...but I'm a bit blind lol.

Oh that looks really painful and if I wasn't such sook and could afford it I'd have it done as a treatment for my rosacea.

I would rather have IPL done, gives better results for deep pigmentation. This laser would be better for those with surface pigmentation and young skin.

I had laser pigmentation removal done (6 treatments so far) and didn't find much of an improvement.

I've had this done before and found the pigmentation does come back, probably due to sun exposure.
For me the pigmentation did increase in darkness quite considerably so I'd recommend carefully choosing when you have it done as the darkening requires fairly serious concealer to cover it.
I found the pricing to be reasonable.

Lasers in general have been life changing for me from fixing my eyesight to permanently removing my underarm and leg hair. I would give this a go if I had to.

Thank you Delaney for sharing your experience. Pigmentation comes and goes, I had this, then my skin went clear, now as I am ageing there is more varied pigmentation. I don't think the cost would warrant having this treatment and as the doctor said, you may need 3 treatments and the first is always the most successful. Isn't it easier and cheaper to just use that good make up to make your skin look better, and less expensive? Still, good luck to those who do chose this option.
